HEAVEN IS HOT BLUE

“HEAVEN IS HOT BLUE” is a collection of eight oil paintings that reimagines the electric feminine divine. Each piece reflects BIRU’s personal journey of deconstructing her religious upbringing and reclaiming symbols of purity and goodness by subverting them through defiant female figures. Halos, wings, and crucifixes are reinterpreted as symbols of liberation rather than control, reimagining divinity through the female gaze.

Abby Larcombe is an artist based in Southern Oregon working under the name “BIRU”, meaning “blue fire”. Working primarily in oil paint, BIRU creates ethereal yet gritty portraits of angels that embody feminine rage, sensuality, defiant joy, and quiet inner power. Through her art and writing, she aims to ignite women’s “inner flame” and empower them to live lives led by their dreams, desires, intuition, and truth.
